Air Charter

-->

The air charter industry began as corporate air charter. Private air charter now is used by many others as well. There are individuals, business executives, sports teams and entertainers that use it. Airplane charter also is used for cargo, freight, air ambulance and organ donation flights.

This method of flying is known by additional names, such as executive charter, air taxi and jet charter. It is all the same thing, no matter how you choose to refer to it.

This is a good alternative to aircraft ownership. There are some different ways you can do it. The historic way is on demand charter. That way involves a trip by trip system. As the charter flier, you reserve an aircraft to fly you from one airfield to another. You can pay before or after the flight. You will find that the charter rates do vary, so it will pay for you to shop around for the best rate. You may book your flight by contacting a local air charter provider or using a national air charter broker.

A jet card is an option to consider. Actually, it is a flight debit card. You purchase one for a couple of hundred thousand dollars. That entitles you to use a particular type of airplane for an agreed-upon number of flight hours. You must use all of your air hours before they expire or lose them. You may be able to receive a refund.

Another popular air charter choice is fractional ownership. With that type of program you have a partial ownership of one airplane or one type of aircraft. You share it with some other people. The air charter companies are the registered owners of the aircraft. The air charter companies maintain all of the airplanes in their fleet and will provide the pilots and flight crews, along with any catering that is desired.

You buy an exact share of the ownership and become a 1/16 to 1/2 fractional owner. You decide on the share to purchase, based on your expected flight hours. The minimum number of flight hours to purchase each year usually is 50 or so. You also will be required to make payments for each of your flight hours, along with the fuel and the flight fees.

Today jet charter planes come in a wide variety of different sizes. The larger jet planes are called heavy jets. There are other jets called medium jets and light jets. The smallest jet today is the very light jet, which usually is called a VLJ. If you decide that jet flights are going to cost more than you want to spend, you always can decide to become a fractional owner of a single-engine piston airplane instead.

If you plan a shorter trip, then a helicopter charter might be right. The aircraft charter service has grown rapidly in recent years with the vast spread of the Internet. Now the information on the locations and availability of different aircraft is accessible nationally. Instead of your having just a few yellow pages choices, you now can go online or can let one of the air charter brokers find a flight for you.
