Travel Woes - Rising Fuel Prices And Dropping Dollar Values
Traveling has a long tradition and our societal wanderlust gives us an opportunity to revitalize ourselves by experiencing the world. Unfortunately, the cost of traveling is up and it appears it will continue an upward trend. So, is the increase in travel expenses just a temporary event or permanent? Well, the future appears to be a mixed bag. Fuel prices probably are never going to drop much. The dollar, hopefully, will rebound at some point and that will definitely help.
Will falling dollar values and rising fuel prices stop us from traveling? No, but we all are going to need to cut costs where we can. Yes, that means we are going to have to get creative when it comes to spending our travel dollars.
If you travel abroad, you already know what you biggest expense is. Flying from here to there takes a lot of fuel and airlines are under a lot of pressure. Flights are going to become more expensive, so we need strategies to deal with them.
Not all flights are created the same price wise. The first factor is the time of year you are flying. To save a boat load of money, try flying during the off season for the location. You’ll save money on the flight, lodgings and basically everything.
What kind of out of the box thinking should you be doing? If you have to fly during high season, try to find a charter flight. These are airlines that only work during part of the year. The flight comes with no frills, but it is often much cheaper than regular airlines.
The air courier system is often joked about, but the prices paid to fly are no joke. In exchange for carrying documents with you, the company sending them will pay a large part of the ticket price. Free tickets are rare, but you can save a ton.
After flying, putting your head on a pillow is usually the second biggest cost you will face. You pay for a luxury hotel. To save some serious cash, try a hostel or dorm. You can usually save five to 10 times the money you would spend at the hotel.
A long used travel secret to save money on accomodations is to go local on accomodations. This means renting a room in a home. At nearly every train station in the world, there is usually a little table where cheap rooms are listed.
This list could actually go on and on. Traveling does not have to be that expensive, even now. Take the time to review your situation and see where you can cut corners on your cost.
